March 2010 Update |

To all Alumni and Friends of X-Men Football |
|
As the recruiting season continues, the excitement
continues to grow here in Antigonish. We have a number
of top quality student-athletes listed at the bottom of
this update, adding to what is shaping up to be one of
the best recruiting classes in the nation. This is truly
an exciting time.
I mentioned in my last update that Dylan Hollohan
played well in the Team World vs. USA game played in
Florida. Dylan recorded 5 tackles in the game, and an
article about Dylan’s experience at the game can be
found here:
GoXGo.ca.
I also mentioned in my last update that three of our
players would be attending the CFL Evaluation Camp. Two
other players on our team, LB Tom Lynch, SB Kwame Osei,
were invited to attend another CFL combine being put on
by TSN’s Duane Forde. This combine followed the CFL’s
E-Camp, and was another opportunity for these players to
showcase their skills to CFL coaches and scouts. These
players both put up strong showings, and represented our
school well.
I am also continued to be impressed by the amount of
charitable and community work being put in by our
players. A number of our players have donated their time
to numerous fundraisers over the last few months, and I
would like to congratulate them for their efforts. Many
players on our team were very involved with a number of
fundraisers aimed at raising money for Haiti relief.
This included bottle drives, a fundraising night at the
Inn, as well as general collections around campus and
town. We also had many players participate in a charity
basketball game for Haiti relief that was held at the
Rev. H.J. MacDonald School in Heatherton. An article
about the event can be seen here:
The Casket. We also had many players volunteer to
canvass around town to raise money for the Alzheimer’s
Society, and a pickup hockey game was played as part of
the “Best Buddies” program. I would like to commend our
players for their participation in these events, as well
as the many members of the community who decided to
donate to these causes.
On another note, the annual Father Kehoe Dinner was
also held this month in Halifax. This was, as always, a
great event. I continue to be amazed at the amount of
support and passion that I see in our alumni at events
like these. I would especially like to thank Burrell
Atkins and Derek Martin for donating some of our auction
items for the dinner. I’d also like to congratulate Jim
Campbell for winning our second annual “Coach for the
Day” prize. Jim will be with us in the locker room and
on the sidelines for our Homecoming game this year
versus Mount Allison.
